About the Boston Children’s Hospital: The Augmentative Communication Program at Boston Children’s Hospital is internationally acclaimed for its work with children and adults who are non-speaking or whose speech is severely impaired. The Boston Children’s Hospital The program provides comprehensive, state-of-the-art evaluation and treatment for children and adults with congenital or acquired disorders affecting expressive communication, comprehension and computer access. This includes children with autism. The ALS Augmentative Communication Program is a unique full time Augmentative Communication/Assistive Technology Program focused on supporting people with ALS, proactively but at any time during their life with ALS.
Boston Children’s is the pioneer and was the first organization to iniate a program that supports ALS patients to bank messages and then have access to those messages in their own voice using digital technology. Since 2018, the messages banked can be used to ‘create your own voice throughout the my-own-voice program. Boston Children’s ALS Augmentative Communication Program will assist each ALS patient followed by the program and supported through the program’s Message Banking™ Process and take advantage of the “double dipping” process to create a my-own-voice. They will then work to select and support the most appropriate technology that will allow a patient to combine message bank and voice bank in your daily life.
